Delete your account

The short version: open Surfping and go to Me › Delete account. It starts at once and normally finishes within minutes. No access to the app? Email us from your account's address and we delete it within 7 days.

1. Delete in the app

Open Surfping, tap Me at the bottom, scroll down, tap Delete account and confirm.

Your Surfping account, posts and notification tokens are deleted straight away and you are signed out. Erasing your messaging account on our server is queued and normally finishes within a few minutes.

2. Delete without the app

Lost your phone or uninstalled the app? Email support@surfping.app with the subject Delete my Surfping account:

Send it from the email address you signed up with, and include your @username.

We reply to confirm and complete the deletion within 7 days. We never ask for your password.

3. What is deleted

Your account, @username, display name and profile photo.
Your email address and password hash.
Your messaging account: it is deactivated and its profile and messages are erased from our server (queued, normally within minutes); you leave all chats and groups.
Your Waves, replies, Statuses, likes, re-waves and follows, and the photos attached to them.
Your encrypted key backup, your signed-in devices, notification tokens and your block list.

Nearby messages are stored only on phones, never on our servers: uninstalling Surfping erases them from your phone.

4. What is kept, and for how long

Messages you already sent stay on the phones of the people who received them, as with any messenger.
Reports you made or that were made about you may be kept for up to 1 year where needed for safety, to prevent repeat abuse, or to meet legal obligations.
Server and network logs (IP addresses, request logs) are deleted within 30 days.
Your @username is held for 60 days after deletion, so nobody else can take it during that time.
