Community Guidelines
Effective date: 24 October 2026 · Surfping by Jiji Labs
The short version: be kind, respect “no”, no abuse or scams, no false SOS. Report and block are in every chat, and we act within 24 hours.
1. The spirit of Surfping
Surfping is for real conversations with people you choose, and for looking after the people you travel with. These guidelines apply to everything on Surfping: messages, crew chats, photos, videos, voice notes, calls, group and crew names, @handles, display names, and SOS alerts. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users.
Treat people the way you'd want to be treated. Respect “no”: if someone declines your chat request or stops replying, let it go. Private does not mean anything goes; these rules apply even inside encrypted chats.
2. What's not allowed
- Harassment and bullying. Repeated unwanted contact, insults, intimidation, doxxing, or encouraging others to target someone.
- Hate. Attacking or dehumanising people because of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or serious disease.
- Sexual content involving minors. Zero tolerance. Any sexual content involving anyone under 18 leads to an immediate permanent ban and is reported to the relevant authorities.
- Non-consensual intimate images. Sharing, or threatening to share, intimate images or videos of someone without their consent, including fake ones.
- Threats and violence. Threatening to hurt anyone, inciting violence, or promoting terrorism or violent extremism.
- Spam and scams. Bulk or unsolicited messages, fraud, phishing, fake giveaways, investment or romance scams, malicious links, asking for verification codes or passwords.
- Impersonation. Pretending to be another person, brand or organisation in a way that misleads people, including through your @handle or display name.
- False or abusive SOS. Sending an SOS as a prank or to frighten, mislead or draw people to a place. SOS exists so people can find each other when they need help.
- Tracking people. Using crews or Nearby to follow someone who has not agreed to be followed, or pressuring someone to share their position.
- Illegal activity and other harm. Anything unlawful, or that exploits, endangers or abuses people or animals.
- Abusing the service. Flooding the phone-to-phone network, trying to read others' messages, or interfering with how Surfping works.
3. How to report and block
- Report: long-press a message and tap Report, or open the ••• menu in a chat. Chat requests, groups and group members have their own Report button. In Nearby, use Report or Block on the person. In Waves, use the ••• menu on a wave, reply, Status or profile and tap Report or Block.
- Block: in a chat tap ••• › Block, or block from a profile, a chat request or any group member. Blocked people can't message you. You can undo it in Me › Safety center › Blocked people.
- In one-to-one chats, strangers can only send a chat request, and nothing reaches you until you accept. You can decline, block or report it. In the “Everyone nearby” room any Surfping phone in range can message you, and on Waves people can follow and reply, so block or report anyone who bothers you.
- Outside the app: email support@surfping.app.
If you or someone else is in danger, contact your local emergency services. Surfping is not an emergency service.
4. Enforcement
Reports reach our moderators immediately and we act on them within 24 hours. Depending on how serious the report is, we may remove content, warn the person, suspend or permanently ban the account, and report to the authorities where the law requires. Because messages are end-to-end encrypted we act on the account, the report and what the reporter chooses to share. Repeat or severe violations lead to a permanent ban. You can appeal by emailing us.
